What's it like?...
Part of the Davys chain of wine bars, the Crusting Pipe follows the pattern set by its many sister venues throughout Central London. This means sawdusted floors, underground arches, wine memorabilia, and a healthy wine list which carries reasonable variety, despite being somewhat restricted in provenance due to Davys other role as a wine merchant.
So far, so Davys. However the location of this bar is the key to its primary difference from others in the chain: within a stone's throw of the Royal Opera House, there is no shortage of live music to be enjoyed outside in the covered courtyard. Instrumentalists and singers provide one of the more refined busking experiences you are likely to have in the vicinity, making quaffing here a multi-sensory pleasure.
The wine list includes a decent selection of Sherry, Port and Madeira to tempt the connoisseur, something of a rarity even in a city as cosmopolitan as London. All three of these can make a pleasant apéritif, especially if chilled, so why wait until after eating to enjoy them - and at the Crusting Pipe at least, to benefit from some wonderful music at the same time?
