What's it like?...
On the fringes of an increasingly fashionable part of town, Annabella offers a refreshing alternative to the proliferation of style bars and restaurants which have sprung up locally. Walking past it's hard to miss a welcoming vibe drawing you into the cosy, brick-lined room which accommodates both bar and restaurant. It's the kind of place which easily takes on a life of its own, depending on whether drinkers or diners arrive first after work.
Annabella's major attraction though, apart from tasty generously-proportioned helpings of regional cuisine, is a wine list reflecting the breadth of the Italian wine industry. There are several mainstays, and monthly specials which help to keep things interesting. Coverage runs from the very north right down to Sicily, and at a cost which will come as a pleasant surprise to those more used to London's rather inflated prices.
This is the ideal place in which to reacquaint yourself with the broad variety of Italian food and wine, in a lively and authentic atmosphere. Even if you don't come this way very often (if at all), it's worth the trek into Clerkenwell to discover that excellent value and friendly service still go hand in hand. |
