What's it like?...
All life is present under the girders and skylights at Smithy's, around the corner from the King's Cross Pentonville Road exit. Cobbled floors and informal wooden booths fill a couple of basic rooms which ooze warmth and originality. It is packed out at meal times, testament to simple, tasty fare which is ideal for accompanying one of the hundreds of wines on offer. If you want a seat, you are advised to book!
Pick just about any wine-producing country or region in the world, and Smithy's will have something from it: the usual suspects, but also such diverse destinations as Israel, Mexico, Switzerland, and even England. To our knowledge, such a broad range of possibilities cannot be bettered anywhere in the capital. Add to this the relaxed ambience of the venue, and you have a winning combination.
In a world of 'same old, same old' wine-quaffing venues, Smithy's stands out. Apart from anything else, there is a distinct lack of alternative venues in the immediate vicinity! But don't wait until the day you unexpectedly find yourself at King's Cross before making the trip to this unique London quaffing emporium. |
