 Wine-mine review - February 2001
Digging up great ideas for wine lovers...
This month we reviewed a book: French Country Wines
We thought that this book might be a good one to introduce this month, as French regional wines are beginning to come into their own. In fact, as if to prove our point, just this month Majestic Wine Warehouse had a weekend tasting of French country wines.
This is another wonderful book in the Faber & Faber series on wine-producing countries and regions. It is the perfect source of information for the lesser known, but nevertheless lovely wines of France and covers the length and breadth of the country from the Pyrennees in the Southwest corner, to Paris, to the Jura in Eastern France and even to Corsica.
It is the result of over six months of travel by Rosemary George and is the story of her experiences and encounters with the wines and those who make them. As is always the case with the Faber & Faber books, this one has plenty of maps and appendices to provide the precise facts for those with a profound interest.
A definite winner!
