 Wine-mine review - May 2000
Digging up great ideas for wine lovers...
This month we reviewed a book: Port and the Douro
Thisis one of two recently published books on Portugal by Richard Mayson. (His other is Portugal's wines and winemakers.)
It is a must for any wine enthusiast's bookshelf, with chapters tracing the history of the Port trade and the Douro, how Port is made and with a description and assessment of the main Port shippers. Mayson also goes into detail describing the various styles of Port and looks at the vintages, going back as far as the late nineteenth century.
If you have an interest in Port or the area and if you are thinking of visiting this region of Portugal anytime in the near future, then we recommend you get hold of this book straight away. A great read.
