 Wine-mine review - June 2001
Digging up great ideas for wine lovers...
This month we reviewed a web site: www.vinasdechile.com
Visiting here is the next best thing to going to Chile itself. Comprehensive and easy to follow, the Chilean Wine Producers Association has put together a wide-ranging site which covers much more than its own product.
The initial log on to the site brings up the Spanish version, but a quick click will provide you with English. From the homepage you can explore at will: plenty of up-to-date information about the Chilean wine industry, from export figures to wineries and estates, local events, appellations and wine legislation.
But thats not all! International wine news, features, history and culture of wine, and FAQ ("The Sommelier Responds") all appear. There is an excellent glossary and explanation of grape varietals, concentrating on their relevance to Chile, but general enough to be of use in other contexts. A section on "Wine & Health" catches the eye, as do links to other international wine websites and Chilean tourist websites too.
Enhanced by great photographs, www.vinasdechile.com more than whets the appetite for a real visit. As a resource for finding out more about the burgeoning Chilean wine industry, its definitely the place to begin.
