JQWine Review - 09 04 2003
It's all about having fun & learning about wine.

This week's wine was:

Hidalgo La Gitana Manzanilla
Producer: Hidalgo
Origin: Spain
Vintage: None
Price: £5.99
Bought in: Widely available

Manzanilla is similar to Fino Sherry. It is very pale, very dry and has a distinctive nutty, salty flavour. Manzanilla is produced in Sanlucar on the Andalucian coast and because of its particular climatic conditions, Flor - the all-important Sherry yeast, is formed on the maturing wines all year round.

This is a great example of Manzanilla and should be drunk young, chilled and as an accompaniment to nuts or simple tapas.
