The Renwood winery is in Amador County, California. The county has steep hillsides that rise to over 1,400 feet. Very warm daytime temperatures and cooler nights create the ideal conditions for Rhône varietals, both white and red, to thrive. The grapes used to produce this classic Viognier come from three separate vineyards and they are kept separate during the winemaking process until just before bottling.
Viognier's home is Condrieu in the northern Rhône, but this example is not too disimilar. It has the luminescence and exotic aromas of honeysuckle, peach kernel and blossom, followed by a richness of fruit flavours on the palate (melon, peach, pear and vanilla, with a tang of orange zest). Delicious! |
