Côte Rôtie is the most northerly of the 8 AC Crus in the northern Rhône and is renowned for producing wines of great quality and elegance. This example is no exception, though it is still young and will benefit from three to four years of further cellaring.
The wine is beginning to turn a garnet colour and its concentrated aroma is of very ripe dark fruits, horses, leather saddles and cedar. In the mouth it is dry and balanced with all its constituent parts well integrated. The tannins are supple and the acid and alcohol are absorbed in the abundance of peppery black fruits, cedar, violets and leathery character. This is a delicious wine full of complexity and with a lengthy finish but, if you have the patience to tuck it away, it will improve over the next few years and taste even better. |
